If you only have one day for safari in Tanzania, make it Ngorongoro Crater – a place like nowhere else on Earth. This collapsed volcano is home to one of the densest wildlife populations in Africa, all packed into a stunning, green-walled amphitheater.
You’ll leave early from Arusha and drive through the Great Rift Valley, past Maasai villages and rolling highlands. Once at the rim of the crater, the view will leave you speechless – and the real adventure is still to come.
After descending into the crater (600 meters down!), you’ll spend the day exploring its diverse habitats: grassy plains, acacia forest, swamps, and a soda lake – all in just 260 square kilometers. Expect to see elephants, lions, buffalos, zebras, hippos, and if you're lucky a black rhino. This is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with flamingos, eagles, and dozens of other species.
